We're not just building a team — we're building a community.
We are committed to providing compassionate, high-quality services to the children and families we serve and are always looking for dedicated RBTs who share that passion!
A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a trained paraprofessional who provides direct one-on-one therapy to children with autism and other developmental disabilities under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). RBTs play a key role in implementing individualized treatment plans designed to improve communication, social skills, adaptive behaviors, and reduce challenging behaviors.
This is an in-home position, meaning services are provided in the child’s natural environment (home and occasionally community settings), allowing for more meaningful, real-life skill development and generalization.
What RBTs Ask Us Most
Do I need experience to apply?
Not necessarily! Previous ABA experience is a plus but not required. We are happy to train individuals who have a genuine love for working with children, are reliable and compassionate, and have a desire to make a meaningful difference.
Successful RBTs have a love for children and are caring, patient, flexible, reliable, positive, compassionate, committed to helping children reach their full potential, and supportive of families throughout their journey.
New team members receive hands-on training and ongoing support. While RBTs provide one-on-one therapy sessions independently, they are never without guidance or support. Each RBT works closely with a BCBA, who provides weekly direct supervision, feedback, and clinical direction to support growth and quality care.
What does a typical session look like?
Arrive at the client’s home and prepare for session.
Review individualized goals and treatment plan.
Engage in structured play and learning activities.
Teach communication, social, and daily living skills.
Address behaviors and support skill development in real time.
Collect data throughout the session to track progress.
Communicate with parents/caregivers as appropriate.
Receive ongoing feedback, guidance, and supervision from a BCBA.
Meet with BCBA for scheduled supervision and collaboration as needed.
Do I have to be an RBT already?
No! We welcome applicants who are not yet Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs). Candidates must complete the required 40-hour online training course prior to hire and actively work toward obtaining their RBT credential. We encourage applicants to schedule their certification exam within 90 days of employment.
ABA Services of Alabama provides hands-on, on-the-job training and ongoing support to help team members build the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the field.
What should I wear?
We recommend comfortable scrubs and supportive, closed-toe shoes. RBTs spend much of their day actively engaging with children, which includes sitting on the floor, standing, moving, playing, and participating in activities throughout the home environment.
Because of the hands-on nature of the role, clothing may occasionally get messy, so we encourage attire that is comfortable, durable, and appropriate for active work with children.
How many hours can I expect to work?
We offer both part-time and full-time positions, and schedules are typically based on the availability of both the RBT and the families we serve. Most sessions are scheduled between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, Monday-Friday, although exact schedules may vary.
Can I shadow before deciding if this position is right for me?
Absolutely! We understand that ABA may be a new field for some applicants, and we want you to feel confident about your career choice. Depending on availability and client consent, observation and shadowing opportunities may be available for individuals interested in learning more about the RBT role and the ABA profession before making a commitment.
Where will I provide therapy services?
At ABA Services of Alabama, therapy is provided in the child's home, allowing RBTs to help children develop meaningful skills in their natural environment and daily routines. Because services are community-based, team members must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to client homes, arriving on time and prepared for each session.
RBTs also play an important role in building positive, professional relationships with parents and caregivers by communicating respectfully and working together to support each child's progress.
Is this a good position for someone interested in psychology, education, speech therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, or special education?
Absolutely! Working as an RBT provides valuable hands-on experience with children and families and is an excellent opportunity for students and professionals interested in psychology, education, speech therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, special education, and other helping professions.
